Ingredients:
toor dal - 1 cup
tomato - 1
onion - 1/2
tamarind jus- 1 tbspn
green chillies - 2
red chilli powder- as per taste
salt - as per taste
for seasoning
mustard seeds- 1/4 tspn
cumin seeds - 1/4 tspn
channa dal- 1/2 tspn
fenugreek seeds- a pinch
curry leaves - 6-7 leaves
Procedure:
Clean the dal properly and set it aside.
cut the tomato into small pieces no need to finely chop it.
cut onions into small pieces.
slit green chillies and keep aside.
In a pressure cooker add dal, tomato,onion,chillies and add thrice the amount of water .
Keep it on for 4-5 whistles.
If cooking in a pan.. take all the above ingredients in a pot and cook till the dal is soft.
Once the dal is cooked take a ladle and mash the tomato and dal. This will help in mixing everything properly.
In a wok add 1 tbspn of oil and add the seasoning ingredients.
Once the mustard seeds splutter add the dal into it.
If the dal looks thick add some water. If its watery then cooking will make it thick.
add salt and chilli powder as per taste and let it cook for 5 mins.
Tomato dal can be had with roti/rice.
